Overview

The Utilization Tab on the SNF Analyze page has a single table: Skilled Nursing Utilization.

 You can find the table by clicking on the Utilization tab. 

Understanding the Metrics

Number of Patients

This is a count of Medicare patients

• Total - This Physician - This is a count of distinct Medicare patients treated by the named physician during the most recent four quarters.
• Total - State Comparison - This is an average count of Medicare patients treated by all physicians in the state who are registered under the same specialty as the selected physician.
• 3 months Prior - This Physician - We do not calculate this metric. The entry should be blank.
• 3 months Prior - State Comparison - We do not calculate this metric. The entry should be blank.
• Last Claimed - This Physician - We do not calculate this metric. The entry should be blank.
• Last Claimed - State Comparison - We do not calculate this metric. The entry should be blank.

Number of Patients who Received SNF in the last 12 months

These are counts of all patients who were treated by this physician and who received SNF care within the one year reporting period.

 This metric is not the same as Physician SNF Patients from the Explore page. This metric is broader in that there are no restrictions on the time period between the Physician claim and the SNF claim.

• Total - This Physician - This is a count of distinct Medicare patients treated by the named physician during the most recent four quarters who also received SNF care.
• Total - State Comparison - This is the average count of Medicare patients admitted to a SNF who were treated by a physician in the state registered under the same specialty as the selected physician.
• 3 months Prior - This Physician - This is a count of all patients who were admitted to SNF during the year who were treated by the physician within three months of admission to SNF. This metric is visible on the Explore page.
• 3 months Prior - State Comparison - This is the average count of three month prior metrics for all physicians in the state with the same specialty.
• Last Claimed - This Physician - This is a count of all patients who were admitted to SNF during the year for whom the selected physician submitted the last claim prior to SNF Admission. This metric is visible on the Explore page.
• Last Claimed - State Comparison - This is the average count of last claimed metrics for all physicians in the state with the same specialty.

SNF Utilization

Utilization is a measure of a physician's connection to SNF Care. For this table, the percentages are calculated from the counts in the second row divided by the Annual count for the physician.

• Total - This Physician - This metric is the percentage of the selected physician's total patients who were admitted to SNF during the same year.
  • From the image above, the calculation would be 2,024 / 3317 X 100% = 61%
• Total - State Comparison - The comparative metric for SNF Utilization for all physician in the state with the same specialty.
• 3 months Prior - This Physician - This metric is the percentage of the selected Total patients who were admitted to SNF care within 3 months of being treated by the physician.
• 3 months Prior - State Comparison - This is the comparative metric for all physicians in the state with the same specialty.
• Last Claimed - This Physician - This metric is the percentage of the selected Total patients who were admitted to SNF care where the physician submitted the last claim prior to SNF admission.
• Last Claimed - State Comparison - The comparative Last Claimed metric for all physicians in the state with the same specialty.

Average Patient Age

• Total - This Physician - This is the average age of all patients treated by this physician.
• Total - State Comparison - This is the average age of all patients for all physicians in the state with the same specialty as the selected physician.
• The Final four columns - We do not calculate these metrics.
